Certification & Re-Certification Opportunities: October 2018

Hi, DSHRM members!

My name is Kelli Gadbois, SHRM-CP, and I'm so excited to serve as your Chapter Certification Director. I'm an HR manager at a small business in the west ‘burbs, and I'm passionate about continuing education and personal and organizational development. Knowledge is what empowers us to grow and make a positive impact in our organizations. Here at DSHRM, I plan to bring resources to you throughout the year so that getting certified or completing your recertification credits is easy to navigate and leaves you feeling empowered. You got this!

Not certified, but thinking about it? The Winter 2018 exam window is December 1 through February 15. The application deadline is October 19. Late applications are accepted through November 9.

Is that a little too soon? Certification courses for the Winter 2018 exam are already in session, but courses for the Spring 2019 exam window will be available through SHRM online as well as through NIU online and in-person starting in February 2019. Stay tuned here at DSHRM for more details or visit shrm.org or https://niu.edu/continuing-professional-education/professionals/human-resources/shrm-cp-shrm-scp/index.shtmlfor 2019 testing dates, deadlines, and courses. We’ll let you know when the exact testing dates for 2019 are available!

I'm Certified! And I Need Those Credits!

You're already a SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP. Way to go! But now it's all about those recertification credits.

Below is a roundup of a variety of programs available. The topics vary greatly so you can target content you're passionate about or get exposure to topics you may need more support in mastering. Formats and price points vary a lot, too, ranging from (free!) online webinars and courses to in-person classes and seminars.

  • Many HRIS providers also host frequent webinars with valuable content that oftentimes carry SHRM and HRCI credit. As someone who has personally signed up for these webinars and summits, I can tell you that these are all valuable content, very little marketing! Click the links below to sign up for each provider's mailing list. Not all webinars are available for credit, but many are. Bonus - if you sign up before the webinar date but end up missing it, you can watch the recording at a later date.

Group Programs:

  • SHRM offers group training to you and your organization that can count for recertification credit and help develop your HR team. This training is anywhere from 2-4 weeks, and can be offered in virtual and on-site formats. If you have many certified staff members and a project on your team's to do list, this may be a great resource to get expert guidance and credits at the same time: https://www.shrm.org/LearningAndCareer/learning/onsite-training/Pages/default.aspx

We will be sending you an updated list every other month to help you stay on track and plan ahead.

If you have a re-cert opportunity that you know about that isn't on this list, please email me or message me on LinkedIn!Www.linkedin.com/in/kelliegadboisorkelligadbois@gmail.com.

It's important to remember that recertification credits are eligible for scholarships through the SHRM Foundation, www.shrm.org/foundation. Also, don't be afraid to ask for support from your employer! As with getting your certification in the first place, each seminar and course you attend for credit further enhances your knowledge and expertise as an HR professional, which enhances their organization. Investing in you is investing in the organization.
